Park it: Garden of the Gods offering free shuttle this summer
The city of Colorado Springs wants you to spend less time looking for a parking spot and more time looking at the views at Garden of the Gods this summer — two shuttles will be ferrying people from the entrance in an effort to alleviate traffic congestion in the park.
The shuttles will run from the end of May to the beginning of September. Two 14-passenger vans will make loops around the park every 30 minutes with three stops along the way, including one stop near a trail to the Central Garden zone.
Don’t worry, the parking mess isn’t going to just be shifted elsewhere — the park is also seeing a temporary 400-vehicle lot installed for visitors to use while they ride the shuttle. The shuttles will leave the parking area at Rock Ledge Ranch every 15 minutes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day. ( MAP )
It’s a new pilot program stemming from a transportation study earlier this year (the same study that led to the “Motorless Morning” on Earth Day) and park officials say they’ll be measuring feedback from guests. It’s being paid for by the Garden of the Gods Foundation and the city’s parks department.
