Colorado Springs charter school teacher accused of sexually assaulting 12-year-old student on trial

The trial of a Colorado Springs charter school teacher accused if sexually assaulting a student is underway in El Paso County.

On Wednesday, a jury heard opening statements in the case against 42-year-old Kenyada Lattimore.

This case started back in April of 2016, at Ambassador Academy, a charter school in Colorado Springs, where Lattimore was a PE teacher.

Investigators say a 12-year-old female student’s mother found inappropriate and sexually explicit text messages between Lattimore and her daughter on her daughter’s phone.

After further investigation, police say Lattimore also inappropriately touched that student on several occasions.

On Wednesday in court, during opening statements, Lattimore’s attorney says the entire siutation is a misunderstanding full of false alligations.

The defense is arguing that Lattimore believed he was texting with that student’ s mother, and not the 12-year-old girl.

His attorney also claims Lattimore was not in the state when the innapropriate touching allegedly happened.

The trial is ongoing.
