THC-infused drinks already fly off the shelves in Colorado
You can smoke, eat it and now drink it! A beer infused with tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is coming to Colorado.
The man who created the popular beer, Blue Moon, is taking his skills into another avenue. Keith Villa’s new beer called CERIA will be infused with marijuana. It’s something that hasn’t been done before, at least in a beer.
Other beer companies like New Belgium recently announced a similar product, but instead, their beer is made with hemp.
CERIA will be alcohol-free and the buzz will come from the THC. A statement from Villa says, “CERIA will be brewed just like an alcoholic craft beer to maintain its beer taste and aroma, but will then be de-alcoholized prior to the infusion of cannabis”
At local Colorado Springs dispensaries, a buyer can already find THC infused drinks. Elysa Kappelmann, owner of Southern Colorado Medical Marijuana says Keef Cola, a drink she sells already flies off the shelves. She said she shouldn’t be surprised if Ceria was another drink that took off, “there are so many people who are beer fanatics especially in Colorado because there are so many breweries so I think it’ll be very popular.”
Some users prefer to drink their THC rather than smoke it. Kappelmann says, “if you consume it, it lasts longer. The effects are six to eight hours instead of an hour or two if you smoke it.”
Unfortunately, curious drinkers won’t be able to find this new drink at their local bar. Colorado law prohibits the sale of marijuana and alcohol in the same drink. It’s expected to be sold in dispensaries starting this fall.
