Colorado Springs sees 5th traffic-related death for 1st month of 2018

A bicyclist died on Tuesday, almost two weeks after being hit by a vehicle at an intersection in Colorado Springs.

On January 17, Ernest Eldridge, 89, was attempting to make a left turn off Cheyenne Meadows Road onto Highway 115 when he hit 40-year-old Tymen Schreuder.

Schreuder was taken to an area hospital where he died on January 30.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, Schreuder was crossing the intersection legally when he was hit by the vehicle.

Alcohol, speed, and drugs are not considered factors, however, “the daylight conditions did make visibility challenging,” CSPD said.

Charges are pending as police continue the investigation.

This is Colorado Springs’ fifth traffic-related fatality for 2018.
