Interstate connecting Nebraska/Colorado sees 2nd big pot bust

Authorities have made two major pot busts in the past week on a roadway that connects Colorado and Nebraska.

On Wednesday, Nebraska State Patrol seized 227 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on Interstate 80. Interstate 76, which travels through the northeast part of Colorado eventually turns into Interstate 80.

A trooper pulled over a Ford Expedition who was speeding near Lincoln, Neb. While talking to the driver, 24-year-old Randy Yang of Alaska, the trooper noticed a pot smell. While searching the vehicle, the officer found nine bags of marijuana with a street value of $681,000.

Yang was arrested for Possession of Marijuana – more than one pound, Possession With Intent to Deliver, and No Drug Tax Stamp. Yang was also cited for speeding.

Just five days earlier, a man from Colorado was also busted with marijuana on Interstate 80. Charlie Red, 48, was caught hauling 122 pounds of weed that were literally falling out of the back of Red’s trailer.

Troopers received a tip from a driver that was at one point behind Red. The drugs seized were worth around $366,000, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.

Red and his passenger, Damaisy Rodriguez, were taken to the Buffalo County Jail.
