Aurora smoking ban could soon become law
An ordinance that would make it illegal to smoke in a car with anyone 18 years old or younger could soon become law in a city in Colorado.
Our partners at Denver7 reported that five 13-year-old girls have been hoping to change the smoking laws in Aurora and secure the Silver Award, the second highest Girl Scouts honor.
During Monday night’s City Council meeting, the ordinance passed unanimously. A final vote will be held next week.
“Trying to pass an ordinance in the city, banning smoking in the car with minors present is the way to go,” troop leader Kristen Batcho told Denver7.
According to the ordinance, perpetrators would face a $150 minimum fine, which would increase with each offense. The maximum fine would be set by section 1-13 of the City Code at $2,650.
