Colorado Springs man guilty of criminally negligent homicide in fatal stabbing

A Colorado Springs man on trial for murder in an April 2017 fatal stabbing was found guilty of criminally negligent homicide, avoiding a Class 1 felony conviction.

A jury convicted Jason Matthew Kover Monday afternoon, according to the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Sentencing wasn’t announced, but a status conference is set for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 5.

Police found Jeremy Basamania stabbed to death at the Quail Hill Mobile Home Park on an early morning in late April. Kover was identified as a suspect and arrested after a standoff when he refused to exit his home.

According to another person connected to the case , the stabbing happened after a fight with Basamania at Kover’s girlfriend’s house. He said Basamania was still standing when they got in a car and left and that they didn’t know Basamania.
