Rep. Doug Lamborn says Dems are to blame to for shut down
U.S. House Representative Doug Lamborn says the government shutdown is “frustrating” and is referring to it as the “Schumer shutdown.” He says, “the Senate Democrats are unfortunately not taking yes for an answer.
Rep. Lamborn voted to extend funding just days before it was sent to the Senate in order for the government to stay open. Now he’s urging his fellow lawmakers to do the same. “I hope the public is brought to bear on Chuck Schumer and his colleagues in the Senate like Michael Bennet who are holding the defense of our country hostage.”
In Southern Colorado, thousands of civilian employees are without work while the government is shut down. Military installations like Fort Carson and Schriever Air Force Base rely on civilians to make up half their workforce. Lamborn says, “these are people who are going to be furloughed and have no guarantee of being paid when the shut down ends.”
Senate Democrats say they won’t vote to end the shut down until both parties can agree on a resolution for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or DACA. The current deal ends in March that protects children born in the United States from illegal immigrants. If not voted on before March 6th, 700,000 DACA recipients could be deported.
