Parents keep kids home after school threat at Jenkins

Late Thursday night, a notice was sent out to parents of students at Jenkins Middle School saying a threat against the school was posted to the social media forum Safe 2 Tell.

After speaking with Devra Ashby from District 11, we found out a younger student may have overheard older students talking and felt uncomfortable with the conversation. The student then posted it to Safe 2 Tell.

Jenkins Principal Darren Joiner said the threat was not credible and there was no need to worry.

Some parents decided to keep their kids home from school anyway. Extra security was on campus, with the school resource officer from Dougherty High School there to keep parents’ minds at ease.

Joiner has been taking calls from parents all day and encourages them to keep students at home if they feel it is necessary.

Devra Ashby also told KRDO it’s important for students to report any threat on Safe 2 Tell, even if it’s one that doesn’t end up being anything too serious.
