Why is ‘Shark Week’ and ‘Forbes’ trending on Twitter?

A report of President Donald Trump forcing adult film star Stormy Daniels to watch hours of Shark Week has the hot television event trending on social media.

The story that started the Twitter frenzy comes from the online publication, Mother Jones.

Mother Jones Author Dan Friedman reported that emails exchanged in 2009 between “political operatives who were at the time advising Daniels on a possible political campaign, the adult film actor and director claimed that her affair with Trump included an unusual act: spanking him with a copy of Forbes magazine” as well as having to watch Shark Week with him on multiple occasions. She also claimed the copy of Forbes used was one with Trump on the cover.

Mother Jones’ story was sparked by the release of an article by the Wall Street Journal last week, alleging Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, paid Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet about the relationship between her and the now President of the United States.

Within hours of Mother Jones’ story being published, over 4,000 tweets were made on Shark Week and thousands more talking about Forbes.

A big debate on social media was where the focus of the discussion should be.

One tweet concerned about the Forbes magazine said, “Soon to be an official sentence, because this is the world we live in now: The White House has no comment on whether a porn star spanked the President with a copy of Forbes magazine with his face on the cover.”

Another Twitter user felt the Shark Week detail was the most concerning, “You guys are fixated on the magazine, but I can’t get over the amount of time spent watching Shark Week.”

Trump, through representatives, has denied these allegations.
