Broadmoor Bluffs Neighborhood Association appeals project for affordable housing
Neighbors of a new affordable housing project in Colorado Springs voiced their opinions about the project during a meeting Thursday.
Members of the Broadmoor Bluffs Neighborhood Association stood up and spoke about multiple different concerns they have with multi-family affordable housing units to be built in the area by 115 and south Academy Blvd. behind Safeway.
“We assert that the city code was ignored and think our opinions were discounted,” said Dan Martin.
The city disagreed, saying they are in compliance with code and that this has been the original plan for the site all along.
“It is the staff’s belief that they meet all the criteria,” said Hannah Van Nimwegen from City Planning.
After a few hours of deliberation, the planning commission voted to uphold the decision in favor of the affordable housing proposal. Those still opposed to the plan can again appeal to the city council within 10 days.
