6 apartments at Peak 4420 in Colorado Springs severely damaged in fire

The Colorado Springs Fire Department is investigating a fire at Peak 4420 Apartments on the east side of the city.

Just before 6 p.m. on Thursday night, one witness spotted smoke billowing out of an apartment window at Peak 4420.

Jerry Fleckenstein, a local realtor with Bennett Shellenberger Realty, was showing a property adjacent to the apartment complex when he noticed a red glare coming from an apartment window. Then, he told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that the glass blew out and “flames erupted out of the building.”

The Fire Department responded and had the flames knocked down by 7 p.m. At last report, there were no injuries.

Six apartments were severely damaged, causing many to be displaced.

Crews are still working to ventilate some of the smoke out of the complex.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
