US Air Force Academy earns multiple wins at collegiate parachuting championship

The U.S. Air Force Academy’s Wings of Blue skydiving team might not be the underdogs at a skydiving competition, but they handily won several gold medals last week at the 2017 U.S. Parachute Association National Collegiate Parachuting Championship.

More than 80 skydivers competed in different formation categories at the Florida Skydiving Center in Lake Wales.

AFA cadets Connor Severino and Zachary Wolf, who make up the Air Force SieteLobo team, won gold in the two-way vertical formation event. The goal was to build as many formations as possible while flying upright and upside-down. They also won a gold in the advanced class at the USPA national championship in September.

Air Force Storm won the four-way open formation event. The four-member team made as many geometric formations as possible in freefall before opening their chutes. Cadets David Arneberg, Chandler Beachy, Ryan Silva, and Joseph Wilde make up Air Force Storm.

Air Force Sietray-Nobo — consisting of cadets Raymone Jackson, Noah Taylor, and Severino and Wolf — took gold in the team sport accuracy event by landing as close to a target as possible. Severino won the gold in masters sport accuracy.
