Colorado Springs police investigating homicide at southwest apartment complex

Colorado Springs Police responded to the 100 block of W. Motor Way shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday for a death investigation.

Police say when officers arrived at the apartment complex, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Lifesaving measures were attempted, but police say the victim died at the scene.

Erna McKinley, a neighbor who lives downstairs, said she anxiously waited inside her apartment after the lights and sirens died down.

“This place is not safe anymore,” she said.

McKinley has lived in the apartment complex for the past sixteen years, and reports suspicious activity for the past year.

“There’s a lot of suspicious traffic going on here,” McKinley said.

There is no suspect information at this time. Another shooting happened thirty minutes later in southwest Colorado Springs, but investigators don’t believe the two are related.
