Colorado Springs police investigating 2 early morning armed robberies

Two armed robberies prompted responses from the Colorado Springs Police Department within an hour of each other early Saturday morning.

The first robbery happened around 3:30 a.m. at Source Center Point, near Dublin and Powers boulevards. Police say a man, standing about 5’10” and dressed in all black and wearing a mask, walked into a business with a handgun and demanded money. He then fled with cash and cigarettes.

Police say the second robbery happened about 30 minutes later in the 1200 block of E. Pikes Peak Avenue. A clerk inside a locked gas station saw a suspect with a handgun trying to open the doors. The clerk refused to unlock the door, so the suspect took a few steps back and fired four shots at the station, which shattered a large window next to the door. Despite the damage, the suspect wasn’t able to get in the store. Nobody was reported injured after the shots.

The robberies don’t appear to be connected. CSPD is continuing to investigate both of them.
