Two children escape from a house fire in Colorado Springs

The Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to a house fire on Vicksburg Terrace Wednesday. Two children ages 13 and five were home at the time of the fire.

The 13-year-old was able to get the 5-year-old and dog out of the home quickly, and there were no reported injuries. The 13-year-old called his mom and she called 911.

CSFD responded within four minutes of the fire with thirty firefighters on the scene.

CSFD investigators classified the fire as accidental and discovered that curtains caught on fire from the fireplace.

There is significant heat and smoke damage to the home. The residents are currently staying with family members in Colorado Springs.
