Investigators say the threat made at Air Academy High School is not credible
The first day back to class for Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs was off to a shaky start. Through various tips made by peers and parents the school officials learned about a student’s claim ‘to shoot up’ the school and hurt another peer after the holiday break.
The threat was made on the school’s anonymous app Safe to Tell and on other social media outlets. District 20 immediately contacted law enforcement and after further investigation it was determined the threat was not credible. Air Academy High School has increased security but some students felt unsafe to attend class.
District 20 says they are not taking this lightly. “Safety of our students and our staff is number one priority. So even after a non credible threat we are always going to bring in additional security onto the campus at that school as we work through that threat for precautionary purposes,” explains Allison Cortez.
“Deputies are very good at what they do, they’re very good at investigating and using the tools, the techniques, and technology that’s available to them to investigate threats,” says Jacqueline Kibry with El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
This is an ongoing investigation. It’s unknown who the student is and if there will be any charges.
