United Express plane catches fire at DIA

Panic on board a plane in Denver Sunday afternoon. Officials with Denver International Airport posted the following statement on Twitter:

“Arriving SkyWest flight 5869 was reported on fire, all passengers evacuated safely with no injuries. Denver Fire is on scene assessing.”

The fire was reported at 2:54 p.m. The plane operated by SkyWest was arriving from Aspen.

Officials say the plane touched down safely but while landing, an engine caught on fire. While the plane was taxing, the pilot reported the fire onboard and immediately evacuated all 59 passengers and four crew members.

As of 3:30 p.m. Sunday, all runways were back open. Other airport operations were unaffected.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
