FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. – The Hayden Pass Fire has burned 16,559 acres in southwestern Fremont County and is 60 percent contained, as of August 2.
Everyone who was evacuated from their homes has been allowed to return.
A total of 140 homes were evacuated due to the Hayden Pass Fire.
“The residents didn’t demand this, we’re just trying to help them,” said Sheriff Jim Beicker. “We’re only allowing it after careful coordination with the Forest Service, and being sure that the fire is not a threat to anyone returning to their homes.”
The Cutty’s Campground, the Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp and the Lake Creek Campground remain closed because of the fire risk.
The only structure confirmed to have been burned in the fire was a cabin.
State troopers are still monitoring traffic along U.S. 50 in Coaldale, asking drivers to keep traffic flowing and avoid slowing down or parking on the roadside.
Drivers who are passing through the area are asked to be extra careful, watch for first responders and stay off of the shoulder.
