Mother of missing Colorado Springs girl unhappy with progress of investigation
Allegations of corruption surrounding former El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa have one mother upset over her daughter’s missing person’s case.
Kara Nichols has been missing from Colorado Springs since 2012.
She was last seen heading to Denver to check on a modeling job, but hasn’t been seen since.
Now, the alarming grand jury indictment handed down to former Sheriff Maketa and members of his staff has Julia Nichols questioning if her daughter’s case was ever handled properly.
Speaking to our news partners in Denver, Julia says the allegations have severely undermined her trust in the department charged with investigating her Kara’s disappearance.
“It’s hard to believe people who are elected to a trusted position in law enforcement, who could have come so far in the public’s trust, could behave that way” Nichols said in an interview this week.
Julia says she now wonders if previous assurances from Maketa’s investigators were little more than lip-service.
She would like Kara’s case to be reopened, but in the meantime her family is taking matters into their own hands, posting a website for public tips about the case.
