Two local basketball players and their Hoop Dreams

Two local high school basketball players are currently chasing their red, white and blue “Hoop Dreams”.

150 of the best young basketball players from around the country at trying out at the Olympic Training Center for the USA Women’s under 17 World Championship team, “Coming here with all these big girls, it’s like a challenge to me. Not being able to block everybody’s shots is one thing, and getting my shots blocked, so it’s something to learn from I guess.” said Ashley Bowen of Mesa Ridge High School.

Discovery Canyon’s Ashten Prechtel face adversity before she took the court, “Originally my application wasn’t accepted, but then I participated in 3-on-3 trials with some other girls from Colorado Springs. We ended up getting 2nd overall and after that they accepted my application.”

The trails continue through the weekend. The finalists for the under 17 team will be announced on Monday.
