Police warning of utility scam

Colorado Springs police are warning about a new scam affecting people in southern Colorado.

People have reported receiving phone calls from a person who claims to work with Colorado Springs Utilities. The scammer demands immediate payment of an overdue account, or services would be shut off.

The calls spoof the main number at CSU (448-4800), making it appear to be a legitimate call.

It is just one of many scams that have been around for the last few year. Police say there has been an increased number of these calls in the last few weeks.
