Trump surpasses 1237, clinches GOP nomination

The formal nomination in at the national convention in Cleveland is all that’s left as Donald Trump clinched the pledged delegates he needs to become the 2016 Republican nominee for president, Thursday.

El Paso County GOP Executive Director Daniel Cole contends Colorado Republicans who six weeks ago, were frightened by the idea of Trump in the oval office are coming around.

“After Cruz dropped out when it was clear Trump would be the nominee, some people were shell shocked,” Cole said. “After a few weeks passed it gave people an opportunity to become accustomed to the idea.”

“I will support him because he’s a Republican, he’s running on our ticket,” GOP voter Linda Potter said. “That’s who I’ll get behind. He is starting to tone things down and running his campaign a little more carefully.”

GOP state chairman Steve House received death threats from Trump supporters in April after the state convention. On Thursday, he said he will do everything he can to help deliver battleground Colorado for the Trump campaign in November.
