Prosecutors address indictment

maketa’s administration. 0:02 i come before you embarassed and humbled by the events of this past week. he apologized for his actions in 2014, but the grand jury says it wasn’t enough. and now an indictment against former sheriff terry maketa, former undersheriff paula presley and former commander john san augustine. 4:28 these charges are class four felonies. they carry anywhere from 2 to six years. counts three through seven – allege maketa and presley intimidated the girlfriend of a deputy after a domestic disturbance incident.. in which she was punched and shoved – resulting in a swollen face and bruises on her arm. maketa is accused of pressuring that victim into a new interview – to claim the girlfriend was the instigator. she was later arrested. 3:17 a grandjury was convened, today they returned an indictment include extortion, conspiracy to commit extortion, tampering with a witness, extortion, false imprisonment and kidnapping. and official misconduct… the victim was bill elder, whose internal affairs file went missing as he became a candidate for sheriff. investigators say presley hid the file at home – and punished elder’s supporters.. as well as any employee who tried to organize a union. as for any comment from elder… all he would say – 0:59 as sheriff i was contacted and committed to complying with the investigation the final counts accuse presley of adding deputies to a list of officers with “compromised credibility”… but it included only the officers who angered her.. some of them hadn’t worked there for over a year…. including one employee who disagreed with an after action response for the waldo canyon fire. 1:26 when concerns came to light each member of the sheriff’s office continued to do their job. names of specific deputies and victims were redacted… to read the entire indictment, go to krdo.com. as we told you,
