Trump wants school resource officers armed across country
Donald Trump has called for more guns in schools.
Under a Trump presidency, the GOP presumptive presidential nominee said he wants school resource officers armed with guns in the building.
17 years after the massacre at Columbine High School, Colorado Springs gun store owner Paul Paradis has argued guns in schools since that April day.
“Since the dawn of time we’ve have had evil people commit unspeakable atrocities on young and people that are vulnerable,” Paradis said. “The only thing that is going to stop a bad person is a good person.”
Former middle school principal and Hillary Clinton supporter Judi Ingelido contends Trump’s proposal is not the answer.
“I would not feel comfortable as a principal, as a teacher, as another parent, having a school where another parent, a special delivery person can walk in with a gun. there’s no need for it,” Ingelido said.
Every school resource officer at every Colorado Springs high school is a trained police officer and according to the department, every one of them carries a gun on campus.
Guns in schools is an issue that will play a role in the general election and one that strikes a cord in the Columbine state.
Springs elementary and middle schools don’t have full time school resource officers. Police say those officers rotate through the schools.
