Fountain Creek tests negative for E. coli following sewage spill

Woodland Park Utilities says 665,000 gallons of liquid sewage spilled into Fountain Creek Monday.

Four private wells near Fountain Creek were tested this week. The El Paso County Health Department confirmed Wednesday the creek tested negative for E. coli.

Crews began investigating Monday when low flow was detected at the main south side lift station off of Highway 24 north of Walmart. The main was clogged with a combination of rags and roots.

Wiley says he doesn’t think there is a big concern for the community, but they are taking steps to ensure safety.

The state health department, El Paso County and Teller County health departments are all working together to test the creek.
