Downtown Colorado Springs sit-in planned for next month
The Colorado Springs sit-lie ordinance has been a point of contention, and now a group is planning a sit-in to protest the law.
The sit-in is planned for April 9, when the Pedestrian Access Act starts being enforced.
The Coalition for Compassion and Action says the law is unfair, but that’s not the only reason they’re organizing the sit-in.
The group says they are trying to raise awareness to battle homelessness.
KRDO NewsChannel 13 talked with a man who frequently sits downtown, and feels he isn’t harming anyone by doing so.
“There are bad elements out there everywhere that make the rest of us look bad. But if you overlook that we’re all human,” explained Scott, who is homeless.
Scott says he plans to attend the event.
Violators face a possible $500 fine and 90 days in jail if they are caught more than once sitting, lying, kneeling, or reclining on sidewalks, trails and other public rights-of-way during business hours.
