Construction to limit access on N. Cheyenne Caon Park
Major construction is expected to begin this week in North Cheyenne Caon Park, limiting access for the next two months.
They city of Colorado Springs will replace 33 culverts along North Cheyenne Caon Park Road, repave North Cheyenne Caon Road and work on construction on the Evans Avenue Bridge near the North Cheyenne Caon entrance.
During culvert repairs, there will be closures on North Cheyenne Caon Road weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The road will reopen Fridays at 5 p.m. and will remain open until Monday at 7 a.m., giving visitors full access on weekends.
The closures were scheduled to begin Monday, but they were delayed because of snow over the weekend.
The road closure will take place in the following three segments:
Phase A – uphill from the Canyonwood subdivision driveway to Gold Camp Road. This includes the entire Gold Camp Road. from the east parking lot to the start of the asphalt (Three culverts)
Phase B- from the Starsmore Center to Mt. Cutler/Mt. Muscoco Trailhead (12 culverts)
Phase C- from Mt. Cutler/Mt. Muscoco Trailhead to the Canyonwood subdivision driveway (18 culverts)
The culvert repairs are expected to cost $200,000 and will be funded by the city’s stormwater fund. The road repaving will be paid for by funds from the voter-approved 2C sales tax increase.
