Honoring Heroes

a man traveling across the country says he’s on a crusade for our military heroes and giving them the thanks they deserve. he’s in southern colorado tonight and is sharing his story this weekend. new on krdo, mekialaya white spoke with him, as he tries to keep alive the legacy of a veteran close to his heart. 07 this is his picture… from his high school graduation photo 09 for michael william emery, pictures of his uncle … are all he has to remember him by. 00 william emery, seaman first class 03 his uncle served in the navy… as a crew member on the u.s.s. indianapolis. most importantly, he was someone he looked up to. 347 everyone deserves to have a hero in their life. my uncle is my hero… but really the 1196 men on the indy are all my heroes 52 the ship was a heavy cruiser in a top-secret mission in world war two. but a little more than 70 years ago, in july of 1945… the ship sank. 301 out of 1196 crew, 880 men lost their lives 03 416 the price of freedom comes from paying the ultimate sacrifice as my uncle did 21 standup: emery says he’s made it his mission to carry on the family name and honor his veteran. 940 for the past few years, i’ve been doing public speaking 45 429 i’m hoping that every time someone thinks about a loved one who was lost in the war or current servicemen that they go up to them and shake their hand and say, “thank you for your service.” those 5 words are so important. 42 he says it’s a message for all of our military heroes, not just the ones lost at sea. 804 there’s such a passion within me… a fire 06 53 to share my uncle’s story and the u.s.s. indy’s story one person at a time 55 in manitou springs, mekialaya white krdo newschanne l 13. a major hollywood film will be released this year, honoring the u- s-s indianapolis crew. it’s set to come out on memorial day… on may
