Three men seek Woodland Park mayor seat
Three candidates for Woodland Park mayor are vying to win the April 5 election.
It will be the first time in several years that voters will get to choose the leader of the city.
Incumbent Neal Levy seeks to earn the public’s trust.
“I’ve been involved in this community for 25 years,” Levy said. “I’m passionate, I’ve been as active as anybody. I’ve given back to this community in a number of ways.”
Levy was appointed to his position back in August 2014. His name was drawn out of a bowl when city council’s vote ended in a tie. Levy took over from David Turley who resigned amid sex assault allegations.
City Councilman Noel Sawyer is challenging levy.
“Finally the city has a campaign,” Sawyer said. “I am the most experienced candidate. I have been here for 15 years. I will bring the voice of the people back to the city.”
Longtime Woodland Park homeowner, software engineer, Mike Maddux wants the seat too.
“The previous two elections, the mayor ran unopposed,” Maddux said. “That’s wrong. The apathy is one of the reasons I ran, to give voters a choice.”
There are also four candidates running for three city council spots.
