Free joints for those who clean community

A cannabis club in Colorado Springs is giving away free joints as an incentive for the public to attend a community cleanup Sunday.

The owner of The Pothole said he and the staff want to do something good for the community. He said it’s important to do so, following a vote from city council last week to ban cannabis clubs.

“We’re only trying to do positive things in the community for the community,” Steve Pacheco said.

He expects as many as 100 people to show up. Those 21 and older will receive a free joint. They’ll pick up trash on the west side of town along Colorado Avenue and Cimarron Street from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Pacheco said six other cannabis clubs are also organizing cleanups Sunday.

Police said as long as recipients are 21 and older and receive no more than the law allows, it’s not illegal for the club to give them free joints. However, they are not allowed to consume in public.
