Father promises action after son’s acquittal
The man convicted in a 2010 fatal shooting was acquitted this week.
Logan McClelland served three years of a six year sentence, but he’s a free man this week, and his father tells KRDO Newschannel 13 this case is from over.
Tom McClelland says he never had any doubt his son didn’t commit a crime, and finally he has confirmation of that.
Logan, just 18 at the time, shot and killed Bradley Blehm outside the Big O Tires in Monument, where Blehm worked at the time.
Logan claimed he was only defending his father, after Blehm attacked his father, but prosecutors charged Logan with murder.
In court, prosecutors argued Blehm was shot while holding his hands up to surrender.
A jury later convicted McClellan of Manslaughter, but that was overturned recently due to a technicality with the original trial.
During the re-trial this week, the verdict was not guilty.
Logan’s father is now asking for an apology from the District Attorney’s office.
“I think a public apology published in the paper would be adequate or at least a start, to try and amend the emotional damage that’s been done. And also financial damage. So yeah, you better believe, brother, and this is a promise, this is just the beginning.”
While in prison, Logan trained as a firefighter, and assisted in fighting several wildfires.
According to his father, Logan is now considering a career in firefighting.
Logan’s family was sued by the victim’s family, and according to Tom McClelland, they eventually settled for $75,000.
He is now meeting with attorneys to discuss a civil suit of his own.
He also estimated the District Attorney spent hundreds of thousands of dollars over the last few years trying to convict his son.
No one from the DA’s office returned our requests for a comment Thursday.
