Man gets life in prison for bludgeoning wife to death

A man who bludgeoned his wife to death at the couple’s home in Walsenburg has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports 51-year-old Ralph Candelario was convicted last week of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence in the Jan. 16, 2014, death of Pam Candelario. He was sentenced in Walsenburg on Wednesday.

The newspaper reports Ralph Candelario originally was scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday, but he tried to kill himself using a disposable razor while in his jail cell an hour before the hearing.

His injuries were not life-threatening but required the sentencing to be rescheduled.
