UPDATE: Historic Preservation Commission recommends landmark

The old power plant along the riverwalk in Pueblo is one step closer to becoming a historic landmark after a fight that has been going on for more than two years.

The Pueblo Historic Preservation Commission voted unanimously to recommend that the power station on the riverwalk become a historic landmark.

Black Hills Energy spoke in favor of demolishing the building, while many members of the community spoke for preserving it.

Mark Mihelich has been fighting for the power station for a year and spoke in favor of it.

“It’s a landmark application for Pueblo, but it’s a landmark decision if they get this passed. This can really help Pueblo turn a corner,” said Mihelich.

The next meeting is on April 13 when the City Planning Commission will discuss the recommendation.
