Sand Creek hires new football coach
David Ramirez is taking over as head coach of the Scorpions at Sand Creek High School.
From 2006-2014, he served as head football coach at Pueblo East High School in Pueblo City Schools District 60, where he transformed a struggling program into a 3A state champion.
“My family and I are excited to accept this opportunity and join the Sand Creek community. I am humbled to lead the Scorpion football program,” said Ramirez, who was named coach of the year by a number of media outlets after earning the state title.
“He was completely revolutionary in what he was able to do for that school and program,” said Jared Felice, Sand Creek High School athletic director. “We are proud to announce David Ramirez as the new head football coach of the Sand Creek Scorpions.”
Ramirez later served as an assistant coach at Liberty High School in Academy School District 20 during the 2015-2016 football season.
Felice says he has hired the right man to turn the school’s program around. The Scorpions went winless in the fall.
“Coach Ramirez possesses all the essential qualities of a successful program leader,” said
Felice. “We are excited and fortunate to have him on board.”
“As we begin this new era of Scorpion Football I want to clearly state that our goal from day one is to build a championship program,” said Ramirez. “I truly believe we have the players, the tools, and the necessary fire to take those steps. I am eager to meet my team and begin the process.”
