Devin Clark’s family pleads for peace in Pueblo

Devin Clark’s mother and brother choose to remember the good times after his murder.

“Devin was always accepting, never rejecting,” said his brother, Tyler Clark. “He was a guy that enjoyed the simple things in life.”

It’s the positive impact he left with them, that has kept them moving forward eight days later.

“He was my protector, my brother but he was my go-to,” he said. “He had a passion for life and compassion for people.

His mother, Heather Poole, said news of his death still doesn’t seem real.

“It’s not just hard for me,” she said. “All of us had a very special bond with Devin. I know what it’s like to be heartbroken. I can literally feel my heart breaking.”

The family told KRDO NewsChannel 13 they were overwhelmed by support. An estimated 1,000 people came to his funeral in Pueblo, Saturday. And the family says been overwhelmed with messages, flowers and tributes.

Devin was one of three people shot as a gunman drove by the Iron Horse Bar and opened fire last month. Police have still not have named any suspects.

His grandmother even has a collection of flowers and candles on the front porch, left anonymously in the past couple of days.

They hope that support continues, as they plead for peace in Pueblo.

“He would want something to come of this,” Clark said. “Starting at home, putting morals and values in people and reflect. Reflect how your parents taught you. That’s why Devin was such a great person.”

His mother just hopes no other parent has to go through a similar, painful experience.

“It’s gotta stop. It’s gotta stop, because I don’t want any other mother to feel the way that I feel right now,” she said. “No mother should have to go through this. No mother should have to bury her child. And I’m gonna miss that kid.”

A kid, his family said, was a testament to a life well lived.
