Person assaulted in attempted home burglary

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is looking for multiple people who entered a home, assaulted a person and fled in the victim’s car Monday morning.

It happened on Couch Circle, near Security Boulevard and Main Street. Deputies said they received a call at 5:25 a.m. reporting a burglary in progress. They said there were multiple people inside the home and multiple burglars.

One person inside the home was assaulted and taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The burglars fled in the victim’s car, a gray, 2000 Hyundai Sonata with license plate number QOJ-061. The car has Colorado tags and may have minor body damage and broken rear windows.

Anyone with information is asked to call the El Paso County Sheriff’s office at 719-390-5555.

The sheriff’s office is investigating what prompted the incident and whether it was random or the victims and suspects knew each other. There was no evidence that the burglars forced their way in.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said no weapons were used and it doesn’t seem like anything was taken from the home. However, the investigation is ongoing.
