2-year-old dog found near starvation

Denver Animal Protection needs help finding the person or people involved in an animal cruelty case that left a gray, two-year-old dog near starvation.

Petunia, a lab/ pit mix, was found in the night drop box at the Dumb Friends League on Feb. 17 severely emaciated. DAP veterinary staff examined Petunia, and ruled out any health conditions that could lead to her condition. When found, she weighed only 19 pounds. Normal weight for her height and breed mix would be around 35 pounds.

A man and a woman were seen dropping Petunia off in the drop box. The individuals are believed to be Hispanic and possibly in their early 20s.

Petunia is currently under the care of DAP and is expected to survive.

Convictions in animal cruelty cases could result in fines from $1,000 to $100,000 and/ or six months to six years in jail.
