Inside a Colorado Caucus
Voters caucused in Southern Colorado, Tuesday night.
Democrats chose their candidate, while Republicans selected delegates to county conventions.
Sen. Bernie Sanders is the projected winner statewide in the Democratic contest over Hillary Clinton.
“He is more open about things, he’s been consistent all along,” Sanders supporter Karen Sinclair-Smith said, “In the end, I think he will come out on top.”
Sanders dominated in El Paso County, while Clinton won by a sizable margin in Pueblo County.
“She a winner and it’s high time we have a woman as president,” Clinton supporter Chuck Murphy said. “She’s had tremendous amount of experience, she’s bright, she’s articulate, she’s well known around the world.”
Turnout was low on the Republican side, but one GOP voter still likes coming to caucus even without voting for a winner for the presidential nomination.
“People that attend caucuses stay very active in the Republican Party and want to have their voice heard,” caucus-goer Janet Huffor said. “It’s one of the oldest processes that we have.”
