Denver, Colorado Springs make top 5 on list of best places to live
U.S. News and World Report has released its list of the best places to live in America, and two Colorado cities ranked high on the list.
Out of the 100 cities ranked, Denver topped the list at number one. Colorado Springs came in at number 5.
Colorado Springs received a score of 7.4 out of 10 in the survey, putting it ahead of Boise, Idaho, Seattle, Wash., Washington, D.C., San Francisco and San Jose, Calif.
Colorado Springs is the only city in the top 10 to have received a perfect score on the “Desirability” criteria, which used a national survey to rank whether people “want to live in a metropolitan area.”
“This national honor confirms what the residents of Colorado Springs, Olympic City USA, already know — that our city is a great place to live, and that our recent growth in the economic and employment sectors point to a very promising future,” said Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers.
“As we continue to improve our infrastructure, stimulate economic development and promote the many positive elements of our city, I am confident that we will continue to see Colorado Springs grow as an attractive place to live, work and play both nationally and internationally,” Suthers said.
The methodology behind the study looks at the following factors:
Job Market Index
Value Index
Quality of Life Index
Desirability Index
Net Migration

Suthers said the city’s appealing qualities outweigh its problems with infrastructure and homelessness.
“Nearly every city deals with those issues in some respect,” he said. “I think we’re ahead of the curve in trying to do something about them. People who come here to visit are seeing it’s a great place to live, too.”
Suthers said the U.S. News list has more prestige than others of its kind because it includes the quality of schools and hospitals.
