Woodland Park celebrates 125th birthday
More than a hundred people gathered on Sunday for a special celebration at Woodland Park’s Ute Pass Cultural Center.
It honored the city’s 125th anniversary.
“The town was started in 1891 when we needed a water line to come in from Loy Gulch into our reservoir. So, four men decided to establish Woodland Park and bond to finance a water line into town,” said Sally Riley, Planning Director for the city.
Ever since then, the city of Woodland Park grew. It now has 7,000 residents.
“We’ve maintained our own character at 8,500 feet with magnificent views of Pikes Peak,” said David Buttery, city manager.
“It makes me proud to represent this community that’s so great and that’s been here for so long,” Neil Levy, mayor.
The event featured a chili lunch, songs, and special cake cutting.
“We are really excited to have people come to Woodland Park and enjoy our surroundings,” Riley added.
The birthday celebration doesn’t stop there. Woodland Park will host several more events throughout the year.
