Fundraiser in Fountain for fallen Marine

Dozens came out Saturday night for a fundraiser in Fountain to help the family of Sgt. Jeffrey Sempler.

The spaghetti dinner was held at the American Legion in Fountain Saturday.

Sgt. Sempler and 11 other Marines were declared dead after a helicopter crash earlier this month. Two helicopters collided near Oahu.

The money raised at Saturday’s event will go toward Sempler’s final expenses, organizers said.

His mother, who lives in Fountain, said the support is overwhelming.

“I’m not sure what I’d be doing if it weren’t for all of these people,” Laurie Allen said. “It just helps a lot having people around, having people to talk to, knowing that I’m not alone and there are other people going through this.”

Allen said she recently returned from a memorial for her son in Hawaii.
