1 killed in shootings and stabbing at Denver motorcycle expo
At least one person is dead and seven people injured in several shootings and stabbings at a motorcycle expo in Denver Saturday.
Denver Police Chief Robert White said of the seven people injured, four were shot and one was stabbed. Many in attendance left in a hurry.
On Sunday, the state Department of Corrections confirmed a DOC employee was involved in Saturday’s deadly attack. But the department said it will not release anymore information.
“We were pretty scared so we left, but came back for our husbands because they’re participating in the expo,” said Jamie Howell.
Early reports indicate that a fight between motorcycle gangs may be behind the violence, but police said the investigation is ongoing.
No suspects were in custody as of Saturday night, police said. But one person of interest and several witnesses were being interviewed Saturday night.
The expo was taking place at the Denver Coliseum, which is near the National Western Stock Show grounds. It’s an annual event that Howell says she’s never been worried about until now.
“It’s a great family event and there’s a lot of people that race. We wanted to support the families that come out. It’s just usually really positive,” said Howell.
Denver Health Medical Center was temporarily placed on lockdown.
“Being a level 1 trauma center we are always prepared for things like this,” said Kevin McVaney, medical director for Denver Paramedics.
Sunday’s motorcycle show at the Denver Coliseum is canceled, White said.
