More than 56 pounds of packaged marijuana found in basement of Colorado Springs home

The Colorado Springs Police Department says that more than 56 pounds of packaged marijuana and an illegal marijuana grow were found in the basement of a home on the east side of town.

The home is located in the 4300 block of Valencia Circle, near N. Murray Boulevard and S. Carefree Circle.

The marijuana was discovered on January 28, 2016 when police and U.S. Marshalls went to the home to arrest a federal fugitive.

Police say that the grow’s operators had illegally tapped into the main electrical lines that supply power to the home. They say the illegal tap was being used to supply electricity to the marijuana grow.

Police say the wiring in the basement was unsafe, so Colorado Springs Utilities cut power from the home.

Neighbors say they never met the people living inside that home but witnessed the arrest and aftermath of the home.

“They had two guys in handcuffs in the morning. My daughter and son-in-law said it smelled like skunk,” said Thomas Donnelly.

“That’s a lot of effort to go through to hide it, to do anything. I even heard from the landlord that inside was molding cause the humidity,” said Benjamin Connery.

Police did not release the name of the fugitive who was arrested.
