Colorado lawmakers want the U.S.S. Pueblo back from North Korea
It’s a ship that’s a prize for the North Koreans. Now, Colorado lawmakers want the U.S.S. Pueblo back in the Home of Heroes.
Members from the House and Senate came together to put together a joint resolution to send a letter to North Korea and the federal government asking for the ship back.
Lawmakers said they want it in Pueblo since the ship is named after the city.
The ship was captured almost 50 years ago by North Korea. Crew members said they were conducting an intelligence mission.
Lawmakers said the U.S.S. Pueblo is the only U.S. Naval ship to be held by a foreign government.
“I got shot up in the capture and medical treatment was awful to non-existent,” crew member Bob Chicca said.
He said if the ship comes back to Pueblo it would be a moment he doesn’t want to miss.
“It would be awesome and unbelievable after so many years,” Chicca said.
The crew members were held as prisoners of war for almost a year in North Korea.
