Planned Parenthood shooting suspect makes first court appearance
Robert Dear faced a judge for the first time Monday.
The 57-year-old is accused of shooting nearly a dozen people at a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood on Black Friday.
Dear’s public defender is Daniel King. King also defended Aurora theater shooter James Holmes.
Dear is accused of killing three people, including UCCS Police Officer Garrett Swasey, Iraq War Veteran Ke’Arre Stewart and mother Jennifer Markovsky. He is being held without bond on suspicion of first degree murder.
Dear’s next court appearance was scheduled for Wednesday December 9. Formal charges will be filed at that time.
District Attorney Dan May says it’s too early to know if the death penalty will be pursued in this case.
