Funeral planned for fallen Colorado Springs officer
A funeral and procession are scheduled for fallen UCCS Police Officer Garrett Swasey in Colorado Springs.
It’s set to begin at 1 p.m. Friday at New Life Church.
The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office plans on sending deputies and its honor guard for the ceremony.
Sheriff Kirk Taylor said even though Swasey wasn’t a deputy, the impact of his death is felt in the Pueblo law enforcement community.
“It’s like losing a family member. Even though we didn’t know this individual, we know what he was all about. We know what his core values were. We know what his job was. We know what kind of equipment he wore. We know the uniform he wore. So this hit close to home,” Taylor said.
The funeral is open to the public.
