UPDATE: Bicyclist killed on Colorado Springs street was Iraq War veteran
A bicyclist who begged for his life as a gunman fatally shot him on a street in Colorado Springs was an Army veteran who survived three tours of duty in Iraq.
Tina Myers described her ex-husband, 35-year-old Andrew Alan Myers, as a decorated military veteran and a caring father to his two sons. He died Saturday after Noah Harpham gunned him down and then killed two women on the porch of a sober living home. Harpham died during a shootout with police.
Tina Myers says police told her the shootings were random and that her ex-husband didn’t know his killer.
“To think that you’re never going to see somebody again, you know, it’s awful,” said Tina Myers.
Tina Myers said their sons often told their classmates stories about their dad’s time as a soldier and loved to highlight his accomplishments in school projects.
Samuel Myers said he was very proud of his grandson’s service.
“I’m very proud of him. And I’m as proud of him as he was proud to serve. He really loved it. He really loved it and he was a good soldier,” said Samuel Myers.
Tina Myers said the outpouring of support has helped their family find strength while they grieve.
“So many people that don’t even know him that are showing their love and support, it does help you feel a little better,” said Tina Myers.
Andrew Myers grew up in Thompson, Ohio, before joining the Army, which stationed him in Germany and eventually Colorado Springs.
Tina Myers started a fundraiser on GoFundMe to raise money to send Andrew Myer’s remains back to Ohio to be buried in a veteran’s cemetery.
