Man who chased Colorado Springs rampage shooter speaks out
A neighbor who spotted the man who went on a shooting rampage on Saturday says he didn’t think twice before chasing him on foot.
Matthew Abshire says he spotted the man while in his home.
“I heard some gunshots, looked out my kitchen window and saw a man firing a rifle at a guy on a bike. The guy on the bike went down and wasn’t moving,” said Abshire.
Abshire says the suspect then walked off, past his house. That’s when he knew he had to take action. He started following him.
“I was on foot for probably about half a mile pursuing him,” Abshire said.
He says he called 911 and followed the suspect.
“We pass El Paso and he stops turns around to see if someone’s following him and I had to dive in the porch so he wouldn’t see me,” said Abshire. “He stopped, looked to his left, picked up his AR, fired two more shots.”
He says one of those shots hit a woman in the chest. “She was bleeding out, I felt her pulse, didnt feel anything, took my shirt off, gave her pressure.”
Abshire then tried to help her and another victim who he says was shot in the face.
“I think I would do what any other person would do in this situation… it was fight or flight and I chose to fight,” explained Abshire.
