Colorado carjacker gets 160 years in televised 75-mile chase

A carjacker has been sentenced to 160 years in prison for leading police on a 75-mile chase in metro Denver and nearly killing a Colorado state trooper.

A judge on Friday sentenced Ryan Stone on 18 charges, including attempted manslaughter. The March 2014 chase was televised live and involved officers from a dozen agencies.

The chase started when Stone stole an SUV in Longmont with a 4-year-old boy inside before carjacking two other vehicles during the morning rush hour. The boy was not hurt. But during the chase, Stone struck and seriously injured Trooper Bellamann Hee.

Hee says he has had multiple surgeries and feels fortunate to be alive. He says he struggles physically but has made peace with Stone. The trooper hopes to return to work this year.
